IPL & Lumecca – Brightening Light to Reduce Pigmentation, Dark Spots, and Redness

What is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a high-intensity light energy, similar to a camera flash. It is used to stimulate collagen and elastin production beneath the skin and to treat damage caused by sunlight that harms skin cells. IPL rejuvenates the skin, making it more youthful and reducing signs of aging — all without injuring the skin and with no downtime.

What can IPL treat?

  • Superficial freckles and dark spots – by breaking down abnormal pigmentation and allowing it to naturally shed
  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth – IPL stimulates the middle skin layer to generate new collagen, reducing fine lines
  • Red spots, small red blood vessels, and vascular melasma – IPL destroys small capillaries and shrinks visible veins
  • Enlarged pores – helps tighten and reduce their appearance
  • Uneven skin tone – improves overall skin tone, reduces dullness, and enhances brightness

What are the limitations or precautions before IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment?

IPL can be used on all areas of the body, such as the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, back, legs, and underarms. Since IPL works by targeting pigment (melanin), it has limitations when used on very dark or tanned skin. People with dark to very dark skin, and those who have sunbathed or have sunburn within the past 2 weeks, should not receive IPL treatment, as it may cause skin burns.

Precautions Before IPL Treatment: Avoid direct sunlight, such as sunbathing or beach trips, for about 1–2 weeks before treatment.

IPL Treatment Procedure:

The procedure begins by applying a cool gel to the treatment area.
You will wear protective dark glasses to shield your eyes from the intense light emitted by the IPL device. The specialist will determine the appropriate light energy level based on the condition being treated. Then, the IPL handpiece will be placed on the treatment area and pulses of light will be delivered. The light is very bright and flash-like, similar to a camera flash.

What does IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) feel like during treatment?

When the light is emitted, it feels like a light snap of a rubber band and a slight warmth on the skin. IPL treatment does not cause pain, so no anesthesia is required.

How long does each IPL treatment session take?

A session may take 15–30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.

How many IPL sessions are needed to see results?

Most people need 4–6 sessions, once a month. Typically, after just one session, you may feel that your skin is smoother, pores are tighter, and dark/red spots are lighter. After 4–6 sessions, redness, dark spots, and superficial freckles will visibly fade, and the skin tone will become more even and radiant.

Side effects of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment

This treatment method is very safe. Some patients may experience side effects such as a warm sensation on the skin for about 20–30 minutes after the procedure and mild redness in some areas, which usually disappears within 2–3 hours. In patients treated for superficial freckles, scabbing may occur for about 3–7 days.

After IPL treatment, avoid strong sunlight for about 1–2 weeks and apply sunscreen regularly.

What is the Lumecca Program?

Lumecca is the latest innovation for radiant skin.
This laser light technology interacts with pigment under the skin, helping to brighten and even out skin tone, and reduce melasma, freckles, redness, dark spots, acne marks, and inflammation. It also tightens pores, stimulates collagen production, and restores skin to a naturally hydrated, bright, and smooth appearance.

What can the Lumecca program treat?

  • Treats red and dark marks caused by acne
  • Can treat abnormal pigmentation
  • Treats vascular lesions for a brighter complexion
  • Can switch to hair removal mode, delivering energy about 3 times more powerful than standard IPL, and is safe for darker skin tones

What does the Lumecca treatment feel like?

  • During treatment, you will feel a warm sensation, and the treated area may appear slightly pink for 24–48 hours
  • Areas with abnormal pigmentation will darken and form a thin scab, which will naturally peel off within 1 week, revealing brighter new skin
  • Vascular lesions will appear faded within 2–3 days
  • For hair removal, you may feel tingling or a sharp prickling sensation at the hair or hair root
  • There may be redness and swelling around hair follicles for 2–3 hours after treatment

Post-treatment care after Lumecca program

After receiving treatment, most patients do not experience any side effects.
In areas with abnormal pigmentation, there may be a thin scab that peels off within 7–10 days. After treatment, the skin may become more sensitive to sunlight. It is recommended to avoid strong sunlight or sunbathing for at least 2 weeks after treatment.

How many Lumecca sessions are needed to see results?

For hair removal, hair will grow more slowly and gradually shed within 7–10 days.
Typically, 4–10 sessions are required, spaced 4–12 weeks apart, depending on the treatment area.
